Wireless and other Broadband services are quickly becoming a necessity at home and at work. However, being 'online' all the time at a high speed has it's drawbacks.
High speed Internet does allow viruses and spyware to download and propagate more quickly. Faster speed means higher vulnerability. When new viruses come out, often large companies are affected the most, due to their high speed Internet connections.
Many tools are available to avoid these problems, from personal firewalls, to anti-virus, to basic solutions like putting a password on your wireless bridge at home.
WindWave has some security measures in place, and re-evaluates the network security on a regular basis. These measures include a firewall for the wireless network, MAC authentication, privacy filter, and anti-spam and anti-virus filters on our email servers.
These will not be enough for the average user, however, to keep your computer in tip top shape. We at WindWave strongly urge our users to install the following:
-
A personal firewall.
-
Anti-Virus software.
-
Pop-up Blocker(s).
-
Anti-spyware software
-
Filtration software - for households with Children
There are many variations of these. If you do not own one or more of the above types of programs, please click on the downloads link to find some freeware third-party software. Click on the program you wish to install, click on OPEN, and follow the instructions on the screen.
